The calm before the fun

New Years Eve. So far I've slept in, I've done the general get ready stuff, went to MegaWallyWorld. Decided that I'm crazy, but I'm not THAT crazy. Went to miniWallyWorld, got the 3 things I needed and came home. Quickly signed a bunch of Cthulhumas cards for people at the shindig tonight, or that I'll see in the very near future.

I'm now watching 'Anacondas: Search for the Blood Orchid', epic cheese. Going to the NYE party about 7. Been pretty wound up, anxious/excited about Monday and job hope.

Tomorrow is my traditional 'try to do fun things' New Years Day. I sense computer foo, bad movies, and tasty foodstuff. Maybe I'll go out and do something, I don't know. Mostly though, I just want calm. Saturday I'm helping Amythest with some stuff, and Sunday is our traditional laundry, TV and hanging out. The meeting with the staffing agency is 3pm on Monday. I sense a bunch of xanax til then.

That's about it for right now. Going to call this a post, and I'll I'll probably catch you next year. Til then, happy new years.

2015 in review

Well it's almost the secular/Western New Year. 2015 will go down as a year of change. I lost Mom, after many years of mental decline...that was hard, but it wasn't unexpected. I also lost Cassilda, but that was also not a big surprise. I kind of keep wondering if things will suddenly hit that Mom is gone. Given my depression issues, I'd have expected a bigger meltdown, like I had when Dad passed. But I'm 20+ years older, wiser, and medicated. We'll see what happens when the anniversary comes around.

I finally went back to New York, that was good. Got to show my two favorite people the first 3rd of my life in a nutshell. I also got to do touristy things that a native New Yorker wouldn't have been caught dead doing, and I had a lot of fun. Saw a bar decorated in early Steampunk/Lovecraft, and had unexpected Burlesque show. (I highly recommend unexpected Burlesque, especially if you're in NYC, the ladies were awesome). Got to revisit my childhood homes, museums, the Bronx Zoo, and the house I lived in before I moved to Texas. Oh yeah, and I got to see the Atlantic in all her glory. Thalatta! Thalatta! (if you don't get it, don't worry...it's all Greek to me). As a wannabe Deep One, I have to visit the mother ocean more than once every 20+ years, or at least get down to the Gulf of Mexico more often. And I definitely have to revisit NYC fairly soon as well.

I left the Shoggoth Pit after 12 years, they finally drove me past the brink. The job had been going downhill for years, and I finally decided that the evil I knew was worse than whatever evil I'd run into. Spent a few months recovering, hopefully I can replace the Shoggoth Pit with a better quality of Shoggoths.

Health has been fairly average, no Stans or such. Mental health in some ways got better...hell when your pshrink thinks that quitting your job was a good idea that may be a sign. Not to mention pretty much every friend doing a happy dance of some kind. I lost some weight, I regained it.

Read a lot of books, watched a lot of movies, installed a lot of Linux foo. Best movie, probably 'The Martian'. Favorite movie was 'Harbinger Down' at least by the number of times I'm watched it. No idea about best/ favorite books, it was a good year for Roman history and Cthulhu fiction (and occasional mixes of both).

Been a little more hermitish than I'd like, one of the things I want to fix in 2016. My friends have been awesome, I just find it easier to stay here in Château Innsmouth with my computers and books and tentacles. Going to NYC was a very big deal, need to not forget that I can leave home whenever I want, and that the outside world isn't all that horrible all the time.

So that's my 2015 'short' update. Yeah, I didn't expect this to ramble on so much. Then again, it was a crazy year. On that note, I'll call this a post. *waves a tentacle*

From 0 to 120 in 6 nanoseconds

Well I picked the wrong day to quit sniffing glue. *wink* Actually was having a quiet lie in after staying up late reading about the Second Punic War, then the NecronomiPod started chirping. Friend of mine with a job lead we've been waiting on his boss to push the button. I assumed I wouldn't hear anything til after the 1st...nope, can I contact their staffing company. Cue my anxiety ramping up to 11. Get up, run though the shower, get dressed, keep breathing, and call. It went ok, I was able to mostly rein in my nervous habit of rambling. Talked to the company's account manager, then one of their recruiters. Forwared them my resume, a blurb about why I'm a good fit. Besides the job with my friend, he has two other good positions that I'd probably fit well in. I also did an online test to show my mad Redhat skills...which wasn't too hard, but was very...odd. Lots of things I had to stop and ponder. I have a meeting with the staffing agency on Monday. I'm a lovely mix of excited and anxious. I bet I'll be nuts on Sunday night.

So, it begins for real now. Probably will get Amythest to give me a hair trim this weekend, and I need to double check that my interview clothes still fit. Hopefully things will go smoothly and all will be glorious. I'd like to start the new year with a new leaf, a new job, and a new beginning. *crosses tentacles*

Cleaning and squids

Well it's Monday. Sunday was a day of quiet, I didn't feel like leaving Château Innsmouth, and I barely left bed. Books and naps, yay naps. Down side, I slept like crap. Decided to push the doc-in-a-box visit back...woke up and had a snack, then remembered I was supposed to be fasting. Doh. Oh well, I'll go tomorrow. And I'll write myself a note to not snack at 5am.

Today is starting the great Château Innsmouth clean up. Already swept the kitchen and put out some trash. I also have 'The Beast' miniseries playing on TV. Yay giant squids vs Grissom from CSI. The plan for today is mostly low hanging fruit, sweeping and picking up clutter.

Not much else. Going to take it as it comes. Probably going to avoid leaving the house today. Hermiting while cleaning...with attack squids on the TV. Sounds good to me. Catch you all later.

Non-Geek Boxing Day

The rest of today was pretty good too. Woke up out of a odd dream about dealing with a low grade apocalypse in a hotel with an old friend from college. Got up, got moving, went and did critter care. Came back home by way of Chinese food, ate said Chinese food. Watched a marathon of the Sharknado movies, then a regular tornado went through Dallas. I'm fine, all we got was rain as far as I know. Glad I wasn't in Dallas. Did some dishes, did some minor pick up around Château Innsmouth. Watched a few other cheesy flick, ate leftover Chinese for dinner. Probably going to go to bed and read in a while. Or I may keep up with the bad movies. May flip a coin.

Tomorrow is a normal Sunday, well mostly normal since I'll be going to do my last day of Critter Care. Also need to get gas. Then it's laundry and TV shows with Amythest. Monday I have to go to the doc-in-a-box for a checkover and bloodpressure meds. Then I'll spend most of New Years Week cleaning and organizing and stuff. Then it's back to job hunting and such. Hopefully 2016 will be a better year than 2015 averaged out to be.

So that's about it. Was a good day with the geek, and the cheese, and the food. So that's Boxing Day. Going to catch you all tomorrow. Ciao.

Boxing Day Geekery

Well Boxing Day computer fest has been going fairly well. I reinstalled Hydra with Ubuntu-Mate 15.10, resetup things, updated everything, and manually ran backups to test. The difference between Linux Mint using Mate, and Ubuntu using Mate is minimal. I'm probably going to run into things I have to tweak to make things work, but that's part of the game. Yay for having my primary backup drive back.

I've also been updating the VM pile. Not many Ubuntu updates, though Fedora and SuSE have been pretty busy. I also pushed out some dotfile changes...though I really should write a script to check for changes on start up, and grab them if necessary. I'll add that to my list of things I should do in the future. Oh, speaking of updates and Linux Mint, they released the betas for the XFCE and KDE flavors using 17.3. So I'll add doing that to the plans for geek Boxing Day.

I had a few other ideas for stuff to do tonight, messing with Cacti or Nagios or Mediawiki. All of them are installed, they just need content or notifications or such. Wordpress installs are all up to date, and src builds were done earlier this week. So, don't really know what else I need/want to do. Oh, besides convincing Hydra to stop trying to do ipv6 lookups when nothing on network supports it. (Yes, I'm still using ipv4 at home...I'm old fashioned)

So that's all the geeking I did today, much geekery, so much nerd, so wow. Expect a post a little later about the rest of today, non-computer related. (been a busy day here Château Innsmouth). *waves a tentacle*

Survived Cthulhumas

Well I survived Cthulhumas. Actually finally queued up the Cthulhumas Ctharols on the drive down to Amythest's. Sung along, helped keep me on an even keel. Got everyone together and headed to Saltgrass Steakhouse for lunch. I had chicken, it was pretty decent but not spectacular, but it was open...and that was the important part. Had a good socialness. Headed back to Amythest's for present unwrapping, which since we had 12 people there, it took a while. I bailed post presents, I rapidly (wrapped-ly ?) ran out of tentacles. Still much prefer Amythest's clan to my blood relatives. Came home, changed into pjs, ate dinner, and am now fiddling around with geek stuff.

So ends Cthulhumas. It's been kind of hard, first one without Mom. So I'm kind of glad it's over. I am glad I did hang out with people last night and today though. I could have hermited, Amythest and Nymaz would have understood. But...I don't think it would have been the best plan. I'll get to hermit tomorrow, hermit and geek. So it works out. So I'll catch you all tomorrow during geeking. Have a good night boys and girls.

Star Wars and Tentacles

Merry Cthulhumas Eve. I just spent a nice night with Nymaz and Amythest, exchanging gifties (Yay tentacles...no seriously, Amythest got me lots of stuff with tentacles), and going to see Star Wars. Which lived up to the hype and my fanboyness. Even if I think there was about 2 movies of backstory I REALLY wish I could see. But you know me, I always want more backstory. 4.5 out 5 lightsabers.

Came home a little bit ago, going to watch a traditional Cthulhumas eve movie, something horribly cheesy and inappropriate. Then off to bed, then back down to Amythest's for dinner with her family.

I hope everyone has had a good day, whatever you believe or celebrate or don't, and I'll catch you all tomorrow. Merry Cthulhumas, and to all a good eldritch horror.
