Getting my ass to Mars

Well, as expected, I had weird dreams. The one that stood out was a repeat of Mom coming back from the dead, and me trying to figure out the paperwork to prove she was alive. Oh, and everyone hated me because obviously Mom never died, and I was a bad son. *sigh* My brain hates me some days.

Oh well, I'm up now and moving. Going to go be social in a little while, hopefully best friends will overwhelm the last bits of off feeling I have. Plus, going to see 'The Martian', yay science. Yay friends.

So yeah, that's about all I have for today. Here's to being social, friends, and hopefully an upswing in general fox feelings. Catch you all later.

Friday Frights

Friday night of 'classic' horror movies. First the original 'Poltergeist'. Oh wow, this movie is a poster child for bad parenting decisions from the 80's. But the creepy bits and the effects hold up well enough. I'm still amazed that with all the horror elements it got a PG rating. More movies today need skeletons leaping out at leads. 3 out 5 disinterred bodies up.

I've now moved on to one of the scariest movies, period. 'The Exorcist'. Ooh, they just started 'Tubular Bells', now that's a theme song. (Plus I like Mike Oldfield in general). Downside, I forgot about the scene with Father Damien's mother in the hospital...that stirred up some unpleasant memories. At least it was a short scene, and now on to to the possession warm up. No pea soup yet. But that will be soon.

On non-horror movie side, I'm doing the usual Friday VM updates, and I've finally fixed Cthylla's dual boot set, Windows 10 and Ubuntu 15.10's last beta, with the usual Mate desktop. Mostly it's just to see how well things run on that hardware, with the idea that if Dagon ever bites the dust, I'll be able to swap over with minimum headache. Also, if I end up getting a fancy monitor, the video card on Cthylla supports a 2560x1440 display. That would be shiny, once I was gainfully employed again. But that's just future thoughts.

Otherwise I'm wandering on Wikipedia. Somehow I went from 'The Exorcist' to all the variations of Christian Tribulations, to Zoroastrianism, to pre Indo-European religion and culture (currently on the Kurgan hypothesis . Amazing how I go all over the place. I love the internet. I also have up the alleged exorcism that Blatty based his novel on, but I haven't started reading. I may just bookmark it for later, depending on how late I stay up.

Ok, pea soup was had. Gah, poor Father Damien, he looks like hell. Not even going to mention how rough Regan/Pazuzu looks. Ooh, the old priest just showed, and he's taking no shit.

Ok, that's enough of a post I guess. I guess I'll call it. Going to finish 'The Exorcist', then I'll decide if I'm staying up later or not. Still have about 30 more min, and it's the big finale. And it might be good to end on a high note...or if I stay up, I'll change gears and watch something utterly different. Catch you all later.

Format foo

Fixed some formatting issues on posting, basically told Wordpress via a plugin (PS Disable Auto Formatting) to leave my text alone, unless I use HTML to tell it to do something. It's the little things that make me happy.

Decisions, Decisions

Hey all those who read this. I haven't been cross posting the latest LJ posts to here, mostly because they're repetative and kind of whiny. I'm not sure if I'll continue to seperate this from my daily braindump or not. I do like how I have wordpress basically setup here, but I feel like I should have more informative posts here. I dunno, it may just be I'm down in the dumps and having issues. We'll see...it's the internet, nothing is set in stone.

At least today had tentacles. Aquarium visit and sleepy Giant Pacific Octopus, plus friends makes for a better day. Tomorrow will hopefully be a step in the right mental direction. Talk more later

Start of the Week

Well it's Monday. Slept mostly solid, had very detailed dreams that I only remember a smidge of, some kind of fantasy world that came after an apocalypse on this world. See works by Saberhagen, Brooks and S.M. Stirling, among many others. Woke up right before my alarm, got up, futz around the apartment for a bit, then went to the store for some staples. Came home, called about my 401k foo, re-learned to hate phone trees. Should be taken care of though. Now to do dishes and laundry, and other foo. Mood is kind of lousy however. Still don't feel great, am very unmotivated, and generally blah. Oh well, at least I can get chores done for the day. That's something at least. Guess I'll catch you all later. Have a good one.

Sunday Quiet Sunday

And it's Sunday. Staying home again, as while I'm mostly back to normal, Amythest is feeling less than hot herself. So I'm camped out at home. Not doing another marathon of anime today, pretty much not planning on doing much of anything at all.

Had weird dreams about having to bail a sibiloid out of jail. Otherwise slept pretty solid. As I said I'm feeling better. Hopefully by tomorrow I'm back to normal.

That's about it for today, at least right now. Catch you all later. *waves a tentacle*

Saturday wrap up

Saturday has been a binge watching of 'Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex'. Still have like 4 episodes to go...I'm going to be earwormed with the music for a month. Still, it's been fun to do.

It's 2 weeks til my spawning day. Have no plans for it yet. 43 isn't a big year, and things are kind of different than most Octobers right now. A party with my friends, a movie fest probably, and stuff. Nothing elaborate or major. Then Halloween comes up, which is always fun. Got a laundry list of horror movies I've been working though, the original plan was a do a movie a day, and post my thoughts. But between being sick, and having other stuff on my minds, I've tabled the postings. I'll probably still work my way through them, as there's some classics I've either never seen or haven't seen in a dog's age. Maybe I'll come up with some thoughts eventually. Also, I know I haven't posted my Star Wars thoughts for the original trilogy, pretty much for the same reasons. Though I really enjoyed rewatching them, probably the biggest non-book part of my childhood.

Not much else going on, backups are still running. Still planning on visiting Amythest to do laundry and watch TV, but it depends on how I'm feeling. Hopefully I'm back to normal by Monday, so I can catch up on job hunting prep. I've found a couple of jobs I want to throw my hat at, along with my friends who really want to pimp out my resume... once it's done.

That's about it, last two episodes queued up, then bed and book and sleep. It's been a good day. Hoping tomorrow is too. Night night everyone.

Feeling better

Well I'm feeling better today. Slept pretty much solid, woke up feeling better. Still have the cough, but it's started bring up gunk, which generally means I'm on the mend. Yay healthy-ness.

Am camped out at the Desk of Doom (tm), watching 'Ghost in the Shell' (original movie) and fixing a backup glitch from last night. I rebooted dagon for a kernel update, and the usb drives mounted in the wrong order. So when the nightly backup ran, files went every which way. Fixed that, and rerunning the backups now. It's the little things that cause issues. Also running updates on Cthylla the wintendo and Uxía the laptop. Wild times.

Probably not going to do much today, as I said I'm feeling better, but I don't want to push it. I have food, drinks and meds. I'm a little lonely, but it's not horrible. On that note, I'll call this a post and get working on other stuff and things. Catch you all later.

ZFS foo

And a non-cross posted post, mostly for my own memory.

ZFS uses the zpool command to create and manage the various filesystem pools.

zpool create mypool -f raidz1 /dev/sdb /dev/sdc /dev/sdd /dev/sde

This creates a pool named 'mypool' out of 4 virtual disks on the VM. The -f is to force the build, I'm not sure if this is needed because the disks are virtual.

zfs list shows the details of the pool or pools.

To allow a pool to be expanded (add additional drives), you set it with 'autoexpand=on'

zpool set autoexpand=on mypool

To add an additional disk to the pool, you just use the 'add' command with zpool.

zpool add -f mypool /dev/sdf

Pretty simple, I'll post more as I experiment with ZFS.
